Thank You Thursday-The Power of Hope
The Power of Hope
I am so excited for this weekend to see General Conference. I love the down time with my family and look forward to the guidance and direction we will hear Saturday and Sunday. We (grammie's idea)started a new tradition. We get together for Sunday Dinner after all of the sessions and each person at the table talks about what they heard that most inspired them. Last October Elder Uchtdorf gave his talk on the Inifinite Power of Hope. I chose HOPE as my "word of the year"of 2009. I guess it was the right word because I have gone back to that talk several times(needed to). Sometimes I just need the words to remember what I've known in my heart all along.
I just saw this for the first time. Look at the beautiful picture of NieNie right at the beginning. That girl is amazing. (If you don't know her story, you're probably the only one....go HERE and HERE .)
THIS is beautiful. Marci found her blog last year and we were all hooked. I know Stephanie has felt the love and prayers of people all over the world. She is going to be okay. I've been so moved by her faith and her strength. After watching this little video it dawned on me... SHE has hope.

A Book for Nie

A Heart That's Full
When I woke up this morning and looked at my blog list, I watched this touching video from NieNie's husband. What a beautiful testimony of faith, love & gratitude.
My heart is full today. At 2:00 we had a funeral service for a dear friend, Lori Schmidt. In just a couple of weeks, December 20th, she would have turned 89 years old. I became close to her after we moved here and I was assigned to be her Visiting Teacher. When the routes were changed and I was assigned new sisters to visit I still kept visiting Lori. I found that our age difference had no barrier. We would joke all the time that our spirits were the same age. She led a fascinating life and overcame many obstacles. We went shopping, out to lunch, and visited in each other's homes. We are both avid animal lovers and enjoyed sharing our pet stories. We laughed and cried over the experiences and trials this earthly life brings. She has touched my heart and I feel blessed to have had her as a friend.
Revelations 21: 1-4
1) And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2) And I John saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3) And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4) And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

The New York Times
Everyday when I sit down to check my e-mails, I always read my kid's blogs then immediately read CJane to learn if there is any news on Nie. 
Marci was so touched by this story, she shared it in her blog and I've been following it ever since. Today Jane posted that The Nielsons were featured in a story in the New York Times. I thought the article beautifully portrayed the life Stephanie chose to lead and the powerful influence for good she has been to so, so many young moms.

The Nie Story
To learn more about this family, you can read the post on Marci's Blog. She was telling me the story today about Stephanie and Christian Nielson. They were in a plane crash on August 16th.
I just spent countless minutes reading the story and Stephanie's sister's blog . It truly is moving to see the strength in prayers and how something so tragic can be so beautiful. It is inspiring to me to read about all of the love and generosity of wonderful people, not just family and friends but strangers offering encouragment, making donations and reaching out in whatever way they can. I know, I will forever have a prayer in my heart for the Nielson Family and want to help spread the word. Thanks for sharing this Marci.
